I hope this makes you smile (and makes you lick your lips enough to come and visit us down under) ...
In December 2011 when ZaZ and I moved to Sydney ... My very in-the-know hip and funky cousin, Ryan Dogon, was visiting Sydney and took me to GELATO MESSINA!
It is a pretty small in - the wall Gelato shop (not ice-cream - GELATO) and they have about 40 flavors of ice-cream (For those of you who know me ...know I LOVED Sinnfull in CT ... ) this is like Sinnfull on steroids.
Cassi, I and Zaz would often go to Gelato Messina for a scoop on the weekend - our favourite flavour being Salted Caramel (I think of you Leila). I soon discovered that 1 scoop is $5 ... BUT if I buy a whole TUB (1500ml) it's $26 AND we get to eat a little bit every night.
Well .. over the year we have been here, GM (as 'we' refer to it) has gotten busier and busier ... if you go there anytime between 8pm and midnight - you wait in a massive queue! PLUS they have opened 2 more shops ... PLUS they are opening a shop right on Bondi Beach (about 5 mins drive from my flat - YIKES for my love handles)
But now I have a little tradition going ... During the week,GM puts on Facebook their 5 new and interesting flavors of the week ... On Saturday or Sunday, ZaZ and I drive there (about 15 mins each way) buy a tub ... ZaZ gets a cone, we come home and eat the tub over the week.
I think this is a great 'ritual' ... I especially love Zaria's enthusiasm and love of GM while talking about it and eating it.
I love the interesting flavors ... I had to share this weeks flavors with you.
I promise if you come visit us ... we will go to GM or I'll have a tub waiting for you in our freezer!
(A quick funny story ... This week they advertised a flavor - when I got there they didn't have the flavor, I was saying to the guy how I really wanted that flavor etc etc ... Zaria looked at me and said sternly, 'MOM - at least we have ice-cream ... some people don't even have ice-cream or food) ...
